A voyage of disovery from alienated forms to magically realistic pictures

A painting by Alwin Kok characterizes itself in two ways: a realistic representation and a strange and unreal environment. The first aspect that you will notice when looking at the paintings are the human figures that are often present in the almost timeless, strange or unreal enviroment, with a silhouette of a city or a river landscape in the background.

The second aspect are the townscapes with threatening skies and massive cloud covers. Generally you find strong shadows of buildings and obstacles in a prominent place, these pictures often form a great source of inspiration to Alwin Kok. The attentive visitor will soon recognise familiar buildings and places in and around Zutphen and Deventer or sometimes other special places. These are very recognizable in the background of the paintings and are painted on a exceptinionally realistic and precise manner.

Sparkling colours Striking are the sparkling and clear colours in which he creates space and emptiness in his paintings. The brightness of the colours on his palette are astonishing and the way he paints on canvas is striking and nevertheless alienating.
